Omagh LTC held its first invitational primary schools tennis competition for P5's last Tuesday. The weather conditions were perfect for tennis with not a drop of rain or snow in sight. Three schools from around Omagh town played in the event. Altogether twenty four children from the Holy Family, St. Mary's Killyclogher and Omagh County competed.
Each team consisted of 6 players and every team played against one another in both singles and doubles. The standard of tennis was of a high standard and all spectators, umpires and teachers were very impressed.
The end result couldn't have been much closer. The top two teams St. Mary's Killyclogher and the Holy Family "A" team finished level on matches won and lost as well as level on sets won and lost. After some calculations it all came down to total points won with the Holy Family "A" team edging it by 6 points altogether. Those two teams were closely followed by the Holy Family "B" team and Omagh County.
At the final presentation Omagh LTC coach Mark Smyth thanked and congratulated all the competitors for playing, the teachers who organised their teams and the club members who helped out enormously on the day. Smyth was impressed with the great potential displayed by all the juniors and he hopes this will attract more juniors to play tennis. He expects to organise something later in the year for P6 and P7's.
