New Tennis Committee

The Omagh LTC AGM took place on the 23rd October at 7:30pm. A new committee was formed and a new President was elected. Billy Pollock was nominated as President and Conor Loughrey was chosen as Vice President. The new tennis committee for 2013/14 looks forward to a great season of tennis.

JUNIOR CLUB NIGHT

The Junior Tennis Committee is setting up a Junior Tennis Club Night from 6-8pm. It will run similar to the summer scheme and will start on Thursday the 26^th September from 6-8pm and run every Thursday from 6-8pm. It’s free for members and £2 for non-members.

2013 Nora Taylor & Cuthbertson Shields

The Annual Nora Taylor Cup for Ladies Singles and Cuthbertson Shield for Mens Singles was held on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th August at Omagh Lawn Tennis Club. The weather was warm and fine. This was an internal handicap event and the entry was up on last year. There were many close games . Surprise results were Gary Martin beating Mark Smyth and Maeve Coney beating Nikki Hawkes in earlier games however Mark and Nikki proved too strong overall and walked away with the trophies.

Ladies Semi-Finals were between Eithne Largy and Nikki Hawkes and Maeve Coney and Georgia Stewart.

Finals were between Nikki Hawkes and Maeve Coney. The winner was Nikki Hawkes.

Mens Semi-Finals were between Mark Smyth and Mathew Gilbert and father/son match between Stephen Cuthbertson and Ryan Cuthbertson.

Finals were between Mark Smyth and Stephen Cuthbertson. The winner was Mark Smyth.

An enjoyable Barbecue was held in the Clubhouse later on after the competition, and was attended by players and members celebrating into the early hours.

Junior Summer Tennis Camps

The Omagh Tennis team travelled to East Croydon, London last week to play their annual fixture against Shirley park tennis club (London). The weather was wet at times but competitive play on the Saturday afternoon was not interrupted. The Omagh team included a few new faces who were playing at this level for the first time. All Omagh players contributed to the team score and indeed some excellent performances against very accomplished opponents

The overall match result was: Omagh 95 Shirley Park Croydon 127

A very enjoyable weekend was had by all. The Omagh club will have to try and regain the trophy next year when they host in Omagh.
