2015 Tyrone Junior Open Championships

The 2015 Tyrone Junior Open took place in blistering sunshine at Omagh LTC last week. The standard of competition was very high with players coming from all over Ulster to compete in the five day competition. Irvinestown's Kyran Maguire was one of the week’s big winners by taking home both the boys under 16 and under 18 singles titles. Kyran beat his cousin Ryan Irvine in the final of the boys under 16's. This achievement was matched by Lurgan's Emma Coalter who claimed the girl’s singles under 16 and under 18 titles. Letterkenny's Alex Stergiopoulous clinched a double of his own by winning the boys under 14 singles and doubles. Alex's doubles partner Ballybofey's Charles Rodriguez also won the boys under 14 singles plate.

In the girls under 12 singles Bangor's Anna Gillespie stormed to victory while Enniskillen's Anna Louise Guette defeated club mate Hannah Davis Kunze in the under 14 girls singles final. In the boys under 12 final Ballymena's Caolan McCarroll defeated Andrew Hatrick 6/2 6/2. Ballybofey's Ace Rodriguez won the under 8's event with club mate Luka Browne taking the under 10's event. There was some local success with Omagh LTC's Cormac Coney finishing second in the boys under 18 singles and Matthew Murnaghan won the boys under 16 singles plate. Peter Aiken and Rachel Cross took home the shields for Omagh LTC's most improved players.

At the prize giving, tournament organiser Mark Smyth thanked all those who competed in the tournament, he also thanked everyone who helped out with the tournament and the tournament sponsors McAleer & Jackson, McSorley pharmacy and Lakeland Leisure sports shop.

2015 Omagh LTC Open Day

Whether you are old or young, fit or would like to get fit, then you are warmly welcomed to join us on Saturday 9th May from 2-6pm. Don’t worry about having your own racket as we will take care of that on the day. We will show you around the club, get you hit a few balls and, hopefully, tempt you into becoming, a member. If you are tempted then the good news is that there is a very special introductory membership rate for novice adults.

It is completely free of charge. Everyone will have the opportunity to hit a few balls, have lots of fun and a look at what the tennis club has on offer. We have a purpose built club house and four all-weather floodlit courts, available for play all year round.

On the day we will have activities for adults and children, a free raffle for a one year membership and, if you are game for a challenge, a competition for the fastest serve. As an added incentive the club is offering a number of free group coaching sessions, given by our in-house coach, to any new member who joins on the day. If you want any more information please contact club coach Mark Smyth on contact@omaghltc.com or 07936483597.
